As part of Flow Festival's recent successful grant, we are excited to announce the launch of a development program designed to support two creatives in kickstarting their creative projects. These projects are expected to culminate in a full production and be showcased at Flow Festival 2025 in September.
This creative development project is important to both Flow Festival and the Deaf community, as there is a lack of opportunities for Deaf artists to engage in projects throughout their full duration. It also provides emerging artists with valuable opportunities to develop their professional skills in areas such as creating work, facilitating projects, and collaborating with other creatives.
Let's see who we have worked with for this project!
First Nations with Joanna Agius OAM
Our first creative development project, we are proud to support Joanna Agius OAM, a First Nations artist, in her creative development. Joanna, alongside her ally Elise Stewart, has begun working on a walk-through concept that will display the history of First Nations peoples both before and after colonisation. Joanna emphasises the importance of allyship in her work, believing it is crucial to lead by example in demonstrating how genuine allyship plays a vital role in the process of reconciliation. This project seeks to educate and raise awareness, creating an immersive experience that honours First Nations' histories and cultures.
I want to show how allies can work alongside us without perpetuating oppression against First Nations people. Through this, I hope everyone can learn what we can do together to drive a better, more inclusive Australia for future generations.
Super***licious Project with Jorlene Lim
Second creative development project, we have Jorlene, an emerging multidisciplinary artist, to develop her new concept. Drawing from her experience at Rawcus, Jodie is diving into an experimental process to bring her vision to life. To guide her through this journey, we have also enlisted Luke King, an experienced artist, as her mentor. Luke's expertise will provide invaluable support as Jodie navigates the development of her work.
Since I joined Rawcus, my confidence has grown so much. I would love to recongise and promote their work.
