Visual Dreaming offers an immersive, multi-sensory experience that celebrates Narungga heritage and amplifies Deaf Aboriginal voices at Flow Festival 2025. Through visual animation, Auslan, Blak Auslan, and tactile elements, and this initiative creates an inclusive platform for Deaf and Deaf-Blind communities, as well as allies, to engage deeply with the rich narratives of the Narungga mob.

The project also incorporates powerful interviews with Deaf First Nations people from across Australia, sharing their personal experiences of racism, colonisation, and the evolving signs used within the Deaf community, including Blak Auslan. These voices expose systemic oppression and barriers caused by limited education and awareness in the broader society. By spotlighting these lived realities, Visual Dreaming encourages empathy, cultural understanding, and allyship.

Led by Joanna Agius, a proud Narungga woman and cultural advocate, Visual Dreaming replaces traditional storytelling forms with cutting-edge visual animation and interactive elements to create a fully accessible and engaging experience. Beyond the festival, the project aims to inspire lasting conversations around inclusion and representation, ensuring these narratives continue to be shared and valued.

Join us at Abbotsford Convent in September 2025 for an event that breaks barriers, challenges stereotypes, and builds a shared path toward reconciliation.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its arts funding and advisory body, Deaf Connect, Expression Australia and Flow Festival Australia.
